Experience

I have been a teaching assistant for college-level biology, psychology, and anthropology courses for the 7 years that I have been pursuing my PhD. This experience has given me an excellent understanding of course material and what professors at UCD are looking for in their students. If you are starting out in the BIS series at UC Davis and are worried -- I can help. I have tutored BIS 2B and BIS 2C for years and know the course material, lecturers, exam structure, and lab practicals VERY well. Want to brush up on material before an exam? Want to develop study guides to help you review more effectively on your own? Want to ace that lab practical, which you've heard is notoriously hard? Need an A for your GPA? I can get you there. I have been tutoring and teaching students in a one-on-one setting for years, both as a a private tutor throughout high school and college, and in the more formal setting of the university environment. I am enthusiastic, passionate, and creative, and take real joy in helping students enjoy and understand science and mathematics. I have taught introductory life sciences courses (BIS 2B and BIS 2C), human evolutionary biology (ANT 1), and psychology methods (PSC 41), Animal Behavior (NPB 102), and Advanced Ecology (EVE 101) at UC Davis, and am extremely qualified to tutor in these areas. Relevant courses I have taken and have an excellent understanding with include: Principles of Ecology, Principles of Evolution, Principles of Genetics, Phylogenetics, Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Neurobiology and the Brain, Methods in Psychology Introduction to Human Evolution, Human Osteology, Advanced Human Evolution, Primate Evolution

Hobbies

I am an active, outdoorsy person, and I love to help students understand where the classroom meets the real world. I am currently working with the San Francisco zoo on a project looking into how we can increase enclosure use and patron experience by encouraging the animals to use their exhibit in a more diverse and natural way. I am happy to meet clients at the library or their home, and love pets but can keep my focus even when they are trying their best to distract us.
