Experience
As an educator, I enjoy helping students achieve academic success and build life-long learning skills. It's not just about acing the next test. I strive to help students understand how they learn best, and apply this to all aspects of their education. During these challenging times of online learning for the last year, I also incorporate tools for stress management. I am a first-generation college student and faced many challenges learning to navigate higher education. These experiences have made me passionate about helping other students succeed. I have been working as a freelance tutor for the last 6 years, providing tutoring services for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Before this, I held many tutoring positions through the University Success program at Portland State University. In these positions, I guided students through creating individualized study plans and advised students on developing effective study habits, test preparation, and time management skills. Through this program, I also worked with students placed on Academic Warning (less than a 2.0 GPA after completing their first term.) With these students, I facilitated reflection and assessment of challenges they faced in their first term. Then together we would create a plan to help them be successful in the following terms.
